Anyhoo.. After discussing the differences between powerviolence and grindcore with a friend. We came up with the theory that they are both a combo of death metal and hardcore punk. Grindcore is slightly more "metal" and powerviolence is slightly more punk. Essentially powerviolence is a looser and more gnarly version of grindcore IMO.

Mincecore is a subgenre of grindcore, which is itself a crossover genre between death metal and hardcore punk. For the purposes of not making this article a million years long I'm going to operate under the assumption that you already have a passing familiarity with grindcore. Powerviolence is a back to basics movement in hardcore, whereas grindcore is an outgrowth of peace punk / anarchopunk that was more influenced by things like power electronics and noise than crust. Sludge is basically just really slow crust punk, IMHO.
